Christ Church

Rowley Fields, Leicester

Welcoming all and sharing the Love of God and His message through worship, friendship and action

History

The story begins in 1928 with the closure and sale of Gallowtree Gate Chapel in the heart of Leicester. At this time many inhabitants of central Leicester were moving to live in the new suburbs such as Rowley Fields and the sale of the Chapel enabled the building of two new churches, Christ Church being one of these. At a cost of £12000 Messrs J C Kellett & Son built the current handsome church with its attendant meeting rooms. Apart from the addition of an access ramp today’s building, outwardly, is much the same as in 1931.

The first service was held in a schoolroom on 10th May 1931 with a congregation of 29 and the official opening took place on 9th June 1931.
